Thalopothichil is a traditional Ayurvedic procedure where a medicated, cooling herbal paste is applied to the scalp to treat issues like scalp disorders, stress, insomnia, and migraine. The therapy aims to balance doshas, nourish the scalp, and promote relaxation and mental clarity through the use of cooling, natural herbs.
A medicated herbal paste is prepared, often by soaking ingredients like amla powder in buttermilk overnight and then grinding it into a fresh paste.
The patient is seated comfortably on a chair or leans on a flat table. Massage: A gentle head massage with medicated oil is given.
The freshly prepared paste is applied to the entire scalp in a layer of about 0.5 to 1 centimeter thick.
The paste-covered head is then covered with banana leaves and cloth, leaving the groove open.
The paste is kept on the head for a prescribed duration, typically 40 to 50 minutes.
At the end of the procedure, the paste is removed, and a gentle head massage is given.
The scalp is then washed with lukewarm water.
Thalapothichil is a highly effective cooling therapy that soothes the nervous system, enhances brain function, and nourishes the scalp. It is a perfect Pitta-pacifying therapy, offering significant relief for stress, migraines, insomnia, and hair problems.
